In Japan, more than 10 research projects have started clinical research and trials in the field of regenerative and cellular medicine using iPS cells.
CAR-T therapy attacks cancer cells by modifying immune cells and is already used and attracting attention in the clinic.
The Core Research Center for Next-generation Medicine Utilizing Cell and Gene Therapy (NCGT: Next-generation Cell and Gene Therapy) aims to accelerate the integration of stem cells and genetic technologies to create next-generation medicine.
The four research centers, Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA), Jichi Medical University, National Center for Child Health and Development, and CiRA Foundation, will function as a central hub to stimulate collaborative research, develop multi-skilled personnel, and promote the integration of stem cell and gene therapy research throughout Japan.
